viens ♔ may december romance
[After having a few encounters under the mistletoe, Latvia was quick to catch on to the kinds of effects it had. He wasn't sure why, maybe it was just normal here much like all the other obscene things that no one gave a second glance at. He might have been a bit cynical but deep down Latvia was a romantic at heart and unless something like this happened on valentines day this would probably be the most attention he'd get from girls all year.
So he sat in a hallway near the girls dormitories with a small palette of paint and a jar of water nearby. With a fine brush he carefully painted a colourful design on the side of a wooden train. It was a slightly clunky shape but well sanded down so the edges were smooth. The plasters around his fingers were proof of his effort. He was a little disappointed he couldn't have used the kind of wood he was used to. He hadn't done much wood carving back home but here it was a nice distraction from his terrible performances in class. At least this was something he could do.
It would be such a good scene. A down to earth heroine and the Latvian toy maker among the quiet halls and the light streaming through the frost kissed windows as their own lips touched.
He'd certainly have to use that in his next novella. Latvia smiled to himself from his place under the mistletoe. As the sounds of footsteps reached his ears he did his best to act busy on his conversation starter. He wasn't going to mess this up]

Good enough a reason to walk over there, stop a few metres away and lean down to try to see his face.]
Hey, mate.
no subject
Oh, good afternoon. New Zealand, isn't it?
[In the end he had to forgo the 'miss' or 'mister' he would normally use because frankly he hadn't the foggiest idea which was correct and it had never really come up in conversation. Even though it was nice to see familiar people here he secretly hoped they wouldn't stay long, who knows who would next walk around that corner]

[Names, names... the boy that is with Russia sometimes. Much older than he looks (which is only one human year older than Kiwi, which is nice...) but that is where the brunet's idea of who it is ends. Names... he has to have heard it before.]
I heard that other nations were here too, but except for China and big sis Iggy I haven't seen anyone yet. ["sister" right now because that sounds more independent than "mother" - and with the "current" sex and gender situation of England that would be more appropriate than dadbro.] How long have you been here?
no subject
[In his opinion, England had a certain handsome charm which might not have been fully apparent but was certainly there. A kind of masculine charm, as far as Latvia knew he wasn't a woman. Just thinking about it made him slightly flushed though, and the prospect of even more familiar people made him feel a little excited]
But I've been here since the beginning of the month. It had only just turned December when I left home so I assume it's the same here.

[If Latvia ever felt down about his inability to do magic at least he wasn't having it blow up in his face. As New Zealand sat down beside him he couldn't help but feel warm. Maybe it was just spending time with someone from home]
You never know, it might matter. As fascinating as this place is I should go home, I don't even know how things are without me.
no subject
[Scooting a bit closer, it is really nice to talk to someone from back home like this, just idle small talk... okay, not anymore now, but it is still nice.]
I don't think that there is any effect on our home. [After that this is only a dream.]
no subject
I suppose so... They do have a stronger connection with magic, don't they?
I hope you're right. It's just the last time we all started disappearing it did have a visible effect.
[Latvia was about to close his eyes when he suddenly realised the position he was in and sat bolt upright, a light blush on his cheeks]
no subject
[And then the nation almost jumps when Latvia bolts back upright, not even having really noticed that that might have been an odd move, it was just night and felt warm.]
Are you tired?
no subject
[He knew it was the effects of the mistletoe, and maybe this had been a bad idea. Latvia still debated about whether he should leave in his head as he spoke]
N-no, I'm fine! I think maybe I've just been concentrating too hard, heh...
no subject
And I'm not really that often in Europe, so I might just not have been there when that happened.
no subject
[Trying to be subtle he scoots away slightly. There's something about New Zealand that seems... not wrong but slightly odd. Maybe it was because they didn't spend much time together just the two of them but Latvia couldn't help but feel it bother him]
no subject
No, I don't. ...Maybe it will happen in the future, though. Mumland's from the future, too.
no subject
[Suddenly the length of the gap doesn't seem so important to him]
What's considered the future to you?
no subject
no subject
Really? That long...?
That's nearly a century ago for me. Before I came here it was coming to the end of 2012. I suppose the new year must be soon...
no subject
[Curious. That would make two of them, and England and New Zealand are still alone... But why?]
no subject
[He really doesn't understand the implications]
no subject
...and he sounded like it were rather peaceful times.
no subject
Well, I wouldn't say it's completely peaceful but it is a bit of an improvement on what things used to be like.
no subject
[Scooting just a bit closer. Closeness helps with bad memories, right?] That isn't particularely hard, though. The it being more peaceful than it used to be.
no subject
[He gives a small chuckle as New Zealand scoots closer. After talking for a while he's become a lot more comfortable. Latvia even inches a little closer himself. It wasn't particularly cold here, was it?]
Heh, well who knows how things will be in the future. Sometimes it feels like it's all changing so fast...
no subject
And things have definitely sped up already. I guess it's something like an x² graph at this point. [The closeness is really nice. Not stopping with the scooting closer.]
no subject
That looks really nice.
no subject
Thank-you very much, I haven't done any carving in a while so I'm a little out of practice.
How have you been, miss Naoto?
no subject
It is rather cute...

[When he finally glanced up at her he was faced with someone he felt he knew, yet he'd never seen before in his life]

no subject
Oh! Mr. England, I didn't recognize you like that! It must be difficult when your spell backfires like that.
[He holds up the carving a little so she can see it better]
I carved it by hand, I still haven't gotten the hang of magic to be honest. It must come naturally to you.
no subject
[No, sorry, she can't continue with pleasantries] What did you just call me? What spell? What on Earth are you talking about?!
no subject
W-well, I mean- I don't know exactly what happened I just kind of assumed... D-don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you look unattractive as a woman, in fact you look very attractive as a woman I was just thinking maybe it was a mistake or something or... o-or maybe it wasn't a mistake, I guess it's bad of me to assume. Of course you can be a woman if you want to, I fully support your life choices!
no subject
I have always been a woman! This is how I always look! [O-oh but he called her attractive...]

Y-yeah, don't you remember? You helped us out back in 1918.

[Latvia's not too sure how to respond to all of that so he just goes through the points one at a time]
I'd say nearly a century is still quite a long time though, I understand you're a lot older than I am so perhaps it doesn't feel like as long to you. And I've always been a man, you too. If anything you're the one who's not normal here!

That was back in 1918, nearly a hundred years ago. It's the 21st century now. Like I said, I've always been a man so last time you checked you must have checked wrong.
Are you feeling okay? Maybe changing into a woman did something to your head as well...
